The Hossfeld Bender is built around the basic principles of bending and forming metals. Applying these principles in the simplest way has resulted in a tool that will bend radii and angles on a wide variety of shapes ranging from small rod through pipe and tubing to flat stock and angle iron. This versatility and fast, easy setup make it ideal for production, prototype development, custom fabrication and mainenance shop applications. These qualifications have also made it a favorite instruction tool in high school and college industrial arts shops.
No tools are necessarfy for the simple assembly of dies which will bend pipe, rounds, flats, squates, tubing and angle iron to specifications. Finger adjustment of mounting pins is all that is required.
The available standard and accessory pins and dies will resolve all of the common, and most of the uncommon, bending problems. Special dies have been developed from 80 years experience in the bending of unusual forms and shapes. We will be happy to assist you in the selection, design, building and application of special dies for the unusual job.
 | Mounting the BenderThe most satisfactory method of mounting the machine is that shown in the illustration. The stand is bolted to the floor far enough from walls or others obstructions to permit bending long stock without interference. The bender may also be bench mounted. Be sure the bench is stable and bot the bender down securelyPlan a convenient arrangement for storing the pins and dies and put them back in their places when a job is finished. The stand may be ordered seperately. |
General Operation of the BenderOpen the manual and read it. By becoming familiar with the various bending operations and operator will find that many bending problems have simple solutions on the Hossfeld Bender. The machine consists of a Main Frame and a Swinging Frame into which the Backing Dies, Forming Dies and Bending dies are mount by the simple setting of pins. Attached to the under side of the main frame are: - A circle which is provided with an adjustable stop gauge to be used as a guide for stopping the swinging frame when producing quantities of identical parts.
- A stock positioning gauge rod on which is mounted an adjustable stop against which to mark the location of bends. The movable block also serves as a support for longer pieces.
- A pivoted center pin support with which to position the center pin on two different levels as is occassionally required
The swinging frame is provided with a detachable extension handle to assist in bending heavier stock. The No. 11B square block has an offcenter mounting hole to provide working faces of different thickness for simple adjustment to accommodate various stock thicknesses. For instance: if stock is too thick to fit between the No 11B block and the forming die when using the thin face, move the block back 1 hole and use the thick face. Always place the hole in the corner nearest the center pin - sometimes turning the block end for end is required to achieve this.
General LimitationsHot rolled Low carbon Steel (ANSI 1020) Bar Stock, (ANSI 1020) OD Steel Tube and Schedule 40 Steel Pipe. Hydraulic Power is Recommended on material 1-1/4" through 2-1/8" OD and 1" through 2" pipe.
Hydraulic Power AttachmentThe #2 Bender can be equipped with a compact, powerful hydraulic power unit quickly and easily. Only 4 bolts are used and no drilling is required. It can be canged to hand operation simply by pulling one pin to disconnect the hydraulic ram.Hydraulic power makes heavy bends easy and is ideal for bending samll quantities of accurately bent parts.
